A) Introduction:
As it is already very difficult to find HLA typing match for current patients in the USA who are suffering from blood disorder diseases, the South Asian communities in the USA are in the minority and less than 100,000 South Asians are registered in the National Marrow Donor Program’s Registry. Chances of matching HLA typing for South Asians in the USA are 1:10,000 to 1:100,000. There are approximately 125 South Asian individuals in the USA who are looking for HLA type match. All South Asians have to work aggressively on this awareness to save these lives. The Foundation has started to spread awareness of blood drives among South Asian communities across the USA. The Foundation
has also
approved to undertake three project proposals as described here with a view that the projects shall be set up in India.
The project proposal is based on the Goal/Vision, Architecture plan, List of
Equipment and/or Technology Transfer from the USA, capital costs of the project, operating cost, funding, benefits, joint venture with NGO's, Foundations or Non profit Organizations with responsibilities and
duties defined and the accountability and monitoring plan. Once the project proposal is completed and approve by The Board of Trustees, The Foundation will seek to raise necessary funds to set up the project in India with joint venture with
a NGO
or Foundation or Non Profit Organization with all ethical, legal and financial safeguards and " Best practice" standards.
After the project proposal is completed, The Foundation shall invite qualified NGO's, Foundations or Non profit Organizations to discuss
the possibility of a joint venture to set up such project in India. If
any NGOs, Foundations and Non Profit Organizations are interested to review such proposal, should contact.

B) Awareness:
The Foundation has started to conduct blood drives throughout the USA with the help of local communities and local leaders. The results show that only 5000 South Asians were registered five years ago, now the number has increased to almost 100,000. However, this number is not enough; we have to do more to find a match for everyone who is desperately looking for the perfect match. The Foundation has a vision to set up local chapters across the USA and to provide awareness through education and seminars to the community that will produce educated and committed donors.
C) Establishment:
The
Foundation would like to establish Centralized databank of Bone Marrow donors ( HLA Typing ) registry in India
that is compatible with the World Marrow Donor Association (International Standard).
Objectives:
- To participate in the worldwide search to help out not only
patients from India but also from all over the world for identifying a suitable match.
- To bring awareness to the general population about the need for a Registry and its potential for providing curative therapy for otherwise fatal diseases.
Benefits:
- Indian centers are only doing related (sibling donor) bone marrow Transplants due to
the non-availability of matched unrelated donors. Since the probability of a patient of Indian origin finding a match on any of the current international registries is very low, this registry will offer hope in the form of unrelated marrow donors for patients Who do not have an HLA matched sibling.
- The registry will investigate free of cost all potential donors from India who wish to donate their bone marrow.
- It will increase the chances of finding possible match for anyone
of Indian Origin from any part of the world as it will
be linked to the worldwide registry.
- The matched donor search service will also be provided to overseas
patients besides local referrals. It will also be India's contribution
to this global effort to make unrelated BMT possible for patients. Charges levied for such a service will help in recruiting more donors. The increased donor pool will further enhance the possibility of finding a
suitable match.

D) Manufacturing:
The manufacturing of the HLA typing kits in India to reduce the costs and make it affordable to the average Indian person
OR
to collaborate with the local manufacturer(s) of HLA typing trays in India in order to produce these trays as per AABMF’s request/standards.
OR
Initially ( minimum 3 years ) outsource HLA typing testing of registered bone marrow donors
to qualified local testing lab(s) and / or qualified foreign testing lab(s) who are willing to set up such testing lab in India to do such testing, then the foundation shall set up own lab(s) to reduce the cost if the foundation desire to do so.
E) Establishment:
To establishment a placenta Cord Blood banking (Public) in
India for bone Marrow / stem cell transplant.
